I liked DECISION AT DELPHI so much that I read every book Helen McInnes wrote, and it was one of the best.

Seeing "Moonspinners" mentioned brought back lots of memories! When I was young, I was a big Hayley Mills fan and I loved the movie. Loved the book also. I think it was reading the book that made me want to visit Greece - several years later, I actually went to Greece on my first trip away from Canada and the trip certainly lived up to all my expectations. I'm going back to Greece this summer (after 24 years) and I'm very excited about it. I wonder if I can dig up a copy of that book somewhere?

Elaine, <BR> <BR>If you liked the Moonspinners (also one of my favourites and the movie was a huge disappointment), try This Rough Magic, also Mary Stewart, set in Corfu. It too is quite dated but she does a beautiful job of weaving suspense, romance and The Tempest together to create a terrific plot.

Dear Mikki, <BR>Like several others I fell in love with the idea of Greece after reading Mary Stewart's The Moonspinners. I also agree that the movie was nothing like it. Mary Stewart has also written This Rough Magic set in Corfu which was great and my favourite is My Brother Michael, set in Delphi. Corfu came alive for me years ago after reading My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durrell who was a naturalist and his family spent several years on Corfu when he was a child. It is hilarious and very interesting.

I've actually been able to find most of Mary Stewart's books at second-hand stores. I'm on the lookout for The Gabriel Hounds - can't find it and haven't read it in years. Two must-reads: The Colossus of Maroussi by Henry Miller, and Prospero's Cell by Lawrence Durrell. The latter is about Corfu. <BR> <BR>When I was reading Colossus of Maroussi, I was regularly riding public transportation. Strangers would come up to me and say how much they loved the book. To me that's one of the best reviews. <BR> <BR>Hope I haven't missed your departure date.

I also second My Brother Michael as the best of the Mary Stewart books dealing with Greece. I read it while in Greece and it did really add to the trip

Mikki, <BR>You are probably gone and back by now but I strongly agree with Corelli's Mandolin, also one of the best books about anything I have ever read. <BR> <BR>But I REALLY recomend Colossus of Maroussi by Henry Miller that was also suggested. It is not fiction but the way he writes will make you wish you were going to Greece. The fact that you are, makes it really enjoyable. His description of the area around Epidauros is magical! If you get the chance to go there, by the way, especially to see a play, by all means do it. <BR> <BR>Finally, the recomendation of My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durrell is outstanding. I read it while on Corfu, and went by the place where his family lived and it really made the experience even more enjoyable than it already was. <BR> <BR>Have a great trip!

Thanks to everyone who reccommended Corelli's Mandolin...I'm about 2/3's of the way through it and am enjoying it very much. I didn't have as much reading time on my trip as I had anticipated. <BR> <BR>
