Good eateries in Florence?
 

Can anyone give me the name of a few good "non- touristy" places to eat in Florence? This could include pizzarias!

I'm not sure about the "non touristy" aspect, but my favorite is Il Ritrovo, at Via de 'Pucci 4/A, a block or two north of the duomo. Ring the bell if the door is locked.

Another recommendation for Il Ritrovo. Also we love Quatro Lione on the other side of the Arno, small, fun and good food. Could be sitting next to a group of tourists, or some local Florentines.

We had wonderful meals at Baldovino (both the enoteca and trattoria...get pizza or salad for best sundried tomatoes www.baldovino.com) as well as the best (and cheap) pizza and eggplant parmigiana across the river at Pizzeria I Tarocchi. We also enjoyed Ristorante Cafaggi.

We loved Antica Pizzeria della Arte. Ate there first in 2000 and went back for a great meal this past December. They're at via del Giglio, 28

Recommend Osteria Cinghale Bianco on Borgo Jacopo; cross the Ponte Vecchio to the "other side", and make the first right. Down that street a couple of blocks, on the left. Reserve ahead, even if same day.

I'm a big fan of Francescano (in Santa Croce district - near Baldovino) - good tuscan cuisine (fabulous tuscan steak), good local wine in tumblers, tables tucked into a warren of rooms, candle light. Completely unpretentious but very romantic.

Thank you to grandmere and kate--I always appreciate directions!Kate,Francescano sounds like a lovely spot for a romantic dinner. Love the "unpretentious" part--makes a big difference in the atmosphere for me. Hubby will like that part too.

Kate, Francescano is on my list for next month. Our regular apt. is in Santa Croce, and I love finding a new place nearby. Can you tell how much, say, for dinner for two without wine?

Grandmere, I've heard mixed reviews of Cinghiale Bianco... can you tell me anything more about it?

In 2002 we liked Trattoria da Tito on Via San Gallo ... well enough that we ate there several times! A pizza place we liked was Cellini's near the Mercato Centrale.

Debbie, we found the Cinghale Bianco to be a small, family-run restaurant with good food and very pleasant ambience. Most of the patrons appeared to be locals; the owners seemed to know many of the diners. There was a kind of energy about the place that made it enjoyable.
This was in 2001.

We LOVE La Giostra at Bongo Pinti 12/r near Santa Croce. Not sure it would qualify as "non-tourist", but it is EXCELLENT! I believe they have a website...maybe restaurantelagiostra.it? (or maybe goggle it).

Our hotel recommended Da Osvaldo. We enjoyed it very much and it was small and quaint.

The other place we liked was Acqua al Due. It was charming, GREAT food. Recently I did see it featured on $40 a Day with Rachel Ray on the Food Network. We recommended it to some friends and they loved it too.

When we visited Florence in March of last year, we really enjoyed Trattoria Marione. Had dinner there twice, in fact. Good service, good food, moderately priced, and an interesting mix of Italian and tourist clientele.

Don't have the address handy, but if you can't google it, I'll try to dig it up for you.

We asked our bus driver, Stephano, sho is from Florence, for a good restaurant. He suggested the "Otello."
We went in a little after noon and were their first customers. When we left about an hour later, it was packed with what appeared to be locals. Very good and affordable. The "otello" was near our hotel at Via degli Orti Orcellare, 36.

I'm doing the same research on good places to eat in Florence & like to see places that get multiple recommendations. For those of you who liked Il Ritrovo, about what would you expect to spend there for dinner & wine?

Just back from Florence and we dined 6 nights out of 7 at Trattoria Roberto on Via Castellani (yes, a few lunches as well, I confess). A Florentine friend introduced me to the restaurant and the family 8 years ago and I have been a "regular" ever since. I have taken other Florentines there since and they have made it a regular stop as well.

On the 7th night, we dined for the first time at Trattoria Perseos off Piazza della Liberta and enjoyed it very much.

We just got back from Florence. We really enjoyed Osteria Cinghiale Bianco. The food was incredible. Try their ribolitta or their great tuscan steak.

Yellow Bar !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is not even a bar but a family style resturant. Love it. Best Pizza I have had and increadable soups, salads and pastas. Casual and mostly locals. Osteria Dell Agnolo on Borgo San Lorenzo between the Duomo and Church of San Lorenzo.

Great food, great wines and a wonderfully local atmosphere.
