Good ceramics shops in Orvieto?

DH and I will have 3 nights in Tuscany which we will end with a daytrip to Orvieto where we will return our car and catch a train to Rome. I think we will have 4-6 hours in Orvieto. We want to see the Duomo and also look for ceramics. We love Italian ceramics but don't have time to go to Deruta this visit. I have heard there are good ceramics shops in Orvieto but don't know where to start. Any suggestions?

They are all over the place near the Duomo--you can't miss them. We 've shopped the town extensively and enjoyed the offerings but never connected to any particular place. I'm sure you will find plenty of options even during your short visit. My observation is that most offerings are similar to those found in Siena which are also nice. Have fun and don't stress.

If in your driving you are near Gubbio, that's another ceramics town, known for its "Gubbio Ceramics".

We saw some beautiful giant sized plates that I loved. Just couldn't figure how to get one home. As stated above there are several shops in the Duomo area.

Yes, in the Duomo area. I found when facing the Duomo if you walk left away from it and continue on oh about a couple of blocks there is a commercial street which you turn right on to with lovely shops, or at least that was true the last time I was in Orvieto. But I have never purchased anything because of the difficulty of getting the purchase home. I have never had much luck when I have had purchases shipped to me from Italy as one time we received something different than what we paid for and the others times there were always something chipped or broken.

Virtual shopping in Orvieto. Click a picture, then you will get a list of shops for that street or on the right side a list to search other streets by type of product.

Our favorite ceramic shop in Orvieto is in the main piazza--if you are looking at the front of the Duomo, it's on your left, at the corner, just before entering the main shopping street. We have bought a few pieces from them--all gorgeous--and had them shipped home to the U.S. (free shipping). All arrived in perfect condition.
That said, my absolute favorite ceramic shop is in Montepulciano. Near the Piazza Grande on a street to the right of the duomo. It's called Creazioni d'Arte and they have lovely things for about 1/2 the price of similar shops.

I know nothing of ceramics, but at a corner on the main street is a woodworker store called Michelangeli. Nice stuff. Also, my favorite restaurant in all of Italy is I Sette Consoli in Orvieto Alto. Exceptional.

I bought and had shipped several pieces from the location LoveItaly described; as you are facing the Duomo but at the back of the plaza, to your left is a street with shops, restaurants, etc. There are several ceramics shops but as you go down this street one of the very first shops on your right side is the place I used. It was expensive to ship but everything arrived in perfect condition.
