good area to stay in Florence

We are planning on being in florence for 5 days and am trying to book a hotel through venere.com but wanted suggestions on what areas of Florence are the best (safest) to stay in. Thanks!

Hi A,

As long as you are staying in the historic district, you needn't be worried about safety.

The area around the train station is a bit seedy, but there is a large police presence.

What's your budget?

Florence is so small that any of the areas are ok. If I had to personally choose (from the venere site)...

Palazzo Strozzi area
Uffizi area
Duomo area
Santa Croce area

My 2 personal favorites are the Palazzo Strozzi area (high end shopping) and the Uffizi area.

You can usually save money by booking direct with the hotel. I also used venere.com, and it's a good service, but I later discovered I could have paid less, and/or received a discount for cash, if I'd booked directly with the hotel/B&B.

We loved the Relais Cavalcanti in Florence. It's close to the Uffizi and Ponte Vecchio. I wrote a detailed trip report, and can paste it here if you can't find it. There's a website, and you can contact the owner yourself. I did receive a cash discount there.

Have fun planning.

Hi, through venere the prices are more expensive that the bed and breakfast website.
I stayed at www.caprimoon.com/english
Place is convenient and it's in Florence center near Duomo

Mindy1320!

Goodness, I'm so glad you posted about the Capri Moon! For months I've been trying to find any info on the Capri Moon but there are no reviews and I couldn't find anyone that had stayed there.

Please tell me what to expect: I'll be there from May 12 through the 17th - already payed so I hope it's a great stay.

Thanks Mindy!
