good area for teens at night in London

Here's a question for the resident London experts:

We're in London right now, and my 15-year-old son wants to hang out somewhere with some friends that he met on the cruise we just got off of.

We're trying to think of an area/place that will appeal to teens and parents tonight from about 7-10.

My first thought is the Covent Garden area, but are the entertainers there that late in the evening? Would that be a good area for teens to wander a bit while we putter around or wait for them in a pub?

What other places/areas would anyone suggest?

Thanks!
Annette

Covent Garden would be good as would Camden Town which is full of "yoots" at night.

Also in Camden there will be shops open, as they are too young to go in the pub.

The only downside is that you are almost certainly too old to go in the pubs!

Thanks, CW!

We had a good chuckle about the "too old for the pubs" in Camden!

Since the kids were going to be saddled with their parents, we all just ended up having dinner together at restaurant we happened upon near Oxford Circus.

We've not yet been to the Camden area, and will have to add that to our "to do" list for the future.

Cheers!

Maybe a real londoner will stop by to answer, but I might be inclined to say Tate Modern, which can be entered for free, has a huge, bustling public space, and has a roof in case it rains.

Sorry, CW, I didn't mean to imply you weren't a real londoner! I just meant to say I'm not, and my idea might not work.

The night is gone but for others don't neglect the Trocadero at Piccadilly Circus - a multi-level emporium of entertainment for his age group and full of German, French and other teens in London on group visits - video games, bowling, thrill rides, etc. Things the average 15 year old would like.

I appreciate all the answers!

We'll file the info on the Tate Modern away for a future trip. I looked it up, and it's open until 10 on Fridays and Saturdays.

I think any of the places mentioned would have been perfect...
