Good & Low-cost Accomodation in Florence
I am planning to stay in Florence for 3 nights in early May and hope to find good accomodation for 2 persons at about EURO60-80. Any recommendations?

you might try hotel orcagna which is in a residential area just to the east of the campo dei flori (flower market).
it's inexpensive, immaculately clean and if you ask for the top floor garrets you get a terrace to boot.

I did my own research on this just over a month ago, because I'm going to Rome, Orvieto, Siena, Lucca, Florence, and Cinque Terre in early-mid April. The resources I found most helpful for cheap accommodations were: EuroCheapo (on the internet), Let's Go (on the internet), and Rick Steves Italy 2003 (I bought the book). I found many places that were both centrally located and offered accommodations for 2 persons in your specified price range. I purchased the Florence and Rome Streetwise maps, so I was able to pinpoint the locations of the hotels by knowing the addresses, but the websites and Rick Steves' book also organize the accommodations by location. Note that in Florence, it is common for "in-room facilities" to mean sink and/or shower (BUT NO TOILET) in the room, so be sure to ask specifically about the toilet if you want a private bathroom.

I just booked myself at Dei Mori B&B for a May 2003 trip. Location is great and price around 100.00 per night for double with private bathroom. Here is the link. http://www.bnb.it/deimori/
Happy travels...
P.S. tons of great reviews if you use Fodors search engine and imput Dei Mori

Try the listings on:

Stayed at the Locanda Orchidea last November for more than a week and it was fine. Very inexpensive with shared bathroom. No breakfast and a slightly lumpy bed, but otherwise okay, clean, and very nicely located.

Have you thought about staying in a convent (you don't have to be Catholic)? We stayed here in October 2001. Clean, quiet, inexpensive, well located. Cost was about $70 for two, no breakfast provided. We had the "penthouse suite," with ensuite bath. Some rooms have a bathroom down the hall, which wouldn't stop me from staying there since there were so many clean shiny bathrooms around.
The sisters speak Italian and French. You have to fax for a reservation, and I remember that I had to fax a couple of times before we got a response. They book up early.

As other posters know I am a big fan of convents in Italy. They are very inexpensive, spotlessly clean and safe. We would have never been able to do our two weeks in Italy last year had it not been for staying in convents. Several books on the subject, I found Bed and Blessings Italy far more accurate that the other one. Also check http://www.santasusanna.org/comingToRome/convents.html
They have a list of many convents in Italy and the information stays very accurate.
