Gondola or Not to Gondola

I am curious. Going solo to Florence/Venice. What is the going price for a gondola ride. I have read its rather expensive.

Good afternoon, Teresa
Yes, the gondola for an hour can be
expensive, however check into the
American Express Office just west of
the Pza S. Marco about a half block.
on the Sal San Moise, they run nightly
gondola grouping for much less than
the price if you would go on your own.

Teresa, I can't say that I was much into the gondola ride. I much preferred the vaparetto around the Grand Canal. For seeing the back "streets" of Venice I would just as soon walk.

Hi Teresa, IMO if I was solo I would opt for the less expensive AmEx group gondola or go the vaporetto route. However if I was with a special someone I would certainly pop for the romance ride, as cheesy as it sounds, you just got to do it! Who knows maybe you'll meet someone worthy of your company!

And if you do meet that someone, just don't let him convince you that you need to see what a Venetian apartment looks like!

Theresa -
Like you, I am a single female who often travels alone. Don't let that stop you from doing things. Go sign up for the group gondola ride and enjoy yourself. Who knows, maybe you'll meet other solo travelers. I'm happy that I can say that I've riden a true gondola on the canals of Venice. Go for it!
