Gondola in Venice?

Hello, I am planning a trip to Venice in October. My mom (79 years young) is coming along and wants to ride in a gondola. On the website, I read that the charge is 80 Euro for a 40 minute ride. Is that for the whole boat or per person? I don't really care about this but apparently it's on my mom's bucket list! :)
Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Pam

We went on a gondola ride when we were in Venice in 2015, if I remember right we paid about €50. We were four of us, so the cost pp wasn’t a lot. Not sure what the charges are now. But you can always find a few others to share the ride, isn’t difficult at all.

I know the whole gondola ride concept is kind of cheesy, but all the same it was fun too and we enjoyed ourselves. I can understand where your mom’s coming from, my mom was also with us, which is why we went in the first place 😃

There are also inexpensive group gondola rides -- You'd be in with strangers but the max passengers is 6 so it wouldn't be a lot of strangers. They are about 30 minutes long. Booked it through Venicelink and 4 years ago it cost €25 per person. Thought it was a great compromise between either a full on, expensive private gondola or not checking off a bucket list item.

Price is per boat up to six persons. Be sure you understand how it is priced. It depennds on when you are riding. More expensive in the evening. The Gondola, its history and useness

There are many routes. Study the routes before you choose. Some touristy ones spend too much time on the busy Grand Canal. I chose one that traveled on quite narrow passages. Ask your hotel for route choices.

Choose the time carefully. During the day, you see day trippers and group trourists in "bumper to bumper" gondola traffic. If this does not appeal to you, choose a time long after these day trippers have left the city but before the gondoliers shut down the shop. I took a ride at a time when there was no gondola anywhere near ours. Very serene.
