Golf Weather in Scotland

Would it be better for golfers to vacation in the area of St. Andrews during mid-October or the first part of May? (These are our only choices) We consider the best golf weather to be 50 degrees F or higher, but can handle some rain, wind, and chillier temperatures.

Not much in it, but on balance I'd go for early May. Should have at least a few dry sunny days with temperatures in the low 60's. If you are really unlucky it will rain and can even snow. October generally wetter though.

Pam,

Far better odds in terms of higher temperatures, more daylight hours, in early May. Those mid-October wind-chill factors of 20 degrees F. are not much fun for swinging the clubs!

Third vote for May. Wind is what you have to watch for at St Andrews

Another vote for early May. I did not golf St Andrews, but rather in Ayrshire and had perfect golfing weather.

Enjoy, and stay out of the traps!
