Going to Zermatt, Switzerland. Best way to get there from Milan?
My 22 year old son and I will be traveling for 3 weeks in Europe. We would like to spend a night in Zermatt. We will be leaving Milan, Italy to do so. What is the best way to get there? Detailed information would be great. And how long would it take? When leaving Zermatt our next stop is Venice, Italy. Should we just travel back to Milan and then Venice, or is it easy enough to get to Venice from Zermatt?

Well, we went from Zermatt to Venice at the time a long time ago. Seems a long way to go for a night. Purpose? Time of year?
Why don't you google for the information? I'm sure some here can give it, but you may want to know something else, and google can be your friend.

Train from Milan to Venice is about 2.5 hrs. Train from Milan to Zermatt is 3.5 hrs. Train from Zermatt to Venice is 6.5 hours.
You are adding 7.5 hours on a train to spend less than a day in Zermatt?
Seems like a waste of time.
I was in Zermatt for 4 days, saw the Matterhorn 1 of the 4 days.
Just something to think about...

Thank you everyone, this information helps very much. Its my son that wants to go thru the extra hassle of seeing the Matterhorn even tho he knows we are taking a chance that it is cloudy that day. But I will share your thoughts and maybe he will understand after hearing from those that know better.
