Going to Rome in July, anyone been to Anglo Americano Hotel?

Hi, I'm going on a cruise in july, leaving from the port in Rome, but we're staying one night in the city center, at the Anglo Americano before the cruise leaves...I've heard mixed reviews about this hotel, just wondering if anyone has heard anything about it or has stayed there recently? its near via Sistina and I paid $320 per night for a quad room...and is this area of the city safe to walk around at night with 3 teenage girls?

Hello luvnlife, yes I have stayed at the Anglo Americano Hotel and it use to be a good hotel to stay in.

But I haven't been to Rome for awhile and consequently am not uptodate on this hotel. If you go to TripAdvisor you will read review after review saying the same thing. Strange odors, mold, miserable beds, impolite or uninterested hotel staff etc. It seems that the only positive reviews is the location (right around the corner from the Piazza Barberini where the Via Veneto starts and the metro station is) and a decent breakfast (which personally we never sampled as we always went to the corner of the Via Veneto and had our espresso etc. there). Safe area, yes, again you will be just a few doors from the Piazza Barberini. For one night you will be fine I would imagine but I don't think you will be "thrilled"..it sounds like the hotel as gone downhill which is a shame. If you can change your reservations you might want to do that. If you can't..again it is only for one night and you will be in a safe area. Enjoy your cruise with your daughters..that sounds delightful!
