going to italy (rome florence and maybe more?) for the first time - help with hotels and itinerary

Hi
Me and 3 other girls (all in college) are going to Italy this May for 1 week (May 17-25). We are flying into Rome and we want to spend some time in Rome and then go to Tuscany, Florence, and then back to Rome. I don't know if we have enough time to go anywhere else and be able to give Rome and Florence enough time.

I was wondering if anyone would know of a good hotel/hostel etc in Rome for around 100 euros a night that would be very close to the sights. Something cheap, clean, safe, and nice preferably. We would like to be able to walk to most of the sights rather than having to take the train every day. Also, any suggestions on places in Florence would be appreciated! I've been through a few guide books and gotten a few names of hotels but I cannot be sure how close they are to where we want to be (and I don't know where we want to be either!) So any help in that direction would be greatly appreciated
Thanks!

Both Venere and Tripadvisor have good info on hotels. You can search for their web sites through Google. (I think they are just under their names actually.) They have map features on the sites that can help you identify where hotels are located in regard to metro stops and various sites. You will love Italy. Have fun. PJK

Here are some Web sites that you might find helpful:

www.venere.com
www.ryanairhotels.com

Venice Hotels: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34564805

i booked an apartment with sleepinitaly.com and they were very good. i paid 90E for a location in campo dei fiori, which i loved. i am going to florence this year and can suggest two places. i booked a room w/ bb peterson, which was pretty cheap. but then i changed my booking to homeinflorence.com ...i liked the location better. it costs 82E. the owner is paolo and he's been really helpful w/ all the questions i had so far.

For Florence, try these places for either two doubles or a quad:

Hi go,

With only one week I would either fly in/out Rome and stay there or

Fly into Venice (3 days) train to Florence (3 dyas with a visit to Siena) and fly home from Florence or Pisa.

I can highl recommend the B&BPeterson in Florence.

See my trip report for details
