Going to Italy for our Honeymoon

I have been reading many of the messages posted on Fodor's and tripadviser.com, and have found them to be very helpful. In fact, my fiance and I have already reserved our hotels in Florence and Venice, but we are still looking for a hotel in Rome.

As I am sure you can guess, I will be traveling with my wife to Italy to celebrate our Honeymoon. We will be arriving in Italy in November and staying in Rome for 5 days and 4 nights. During our stay we plan to be blessed by the Pope as a newly married couple, so we are hoping to stay near the Vatican. Therefore, I wanted to see if there were any recommendations for quite hotels or B&B's near the Vatican. We are also open to staying in other locals, but since the Blessing by the Pope is the only event with a time schedule, we thought it would be best to stay near the Vatican.

Price is very flexible, so we are open to all suggestions.

Thanks.

Congrats on your engagment and upcoming wedding! My husband and I went to Italy on our honeymoon in September and had a wonderful time. It is very special to be blessed by the Pope. He will bless your wedding rings!

We did not stay close to the Vatican but I still wanted to write about our hotel b/c we LOVED it. We stayed really close to the Trevi Fountain in Daphne Inn http://www.daphne-rome.com/

The staff was incredibly friendly, spoke perfect English, set up tours, made restaurant reservations, you name it. Fresh cappucino in the AM. They even surprised us with a bottle of Prosecco (Italian Sparkling wine) b/c we were honeymooners. Great location. We walked in the early morning to the Vatican. Not too far, but we are city people and are used to walking all of the time.

Also, spend time on Rome's Left Bank - Trastevere and see the Colloseum at NIGHT. Very romantic. They have lovely light shows and not many people were around. Sort of your own secret.

I'm jealous. You two will have a great time.

My FI and I are also going to Italy on our HM. Due to fabulous reviews on this board and through my future in-laws, we tried to book Daphne...Be warned that they are already booked for our visit which is in mid-October. Book soon if you want to stay there. You can always cancel later. Needless to say, we are still searching for a hotel in Rome.

A couple years ago I attended a friend's wedding in the Amalfi coast. She and her new husband got blessed by the Pope in Rome afterwards. As a present for my mother-in-law, I bought a rosary in the Vatican and gave it to my friend who took it and got it blessed as well by the Pope. Just a thought if you are looking for a neat present for a family member or friend.

We stayed at Residenza Cellini for our anniversary last April. It is a very small six room (I believe) B&B. The staff was amazing and had great tips for restaurants, etc.

They had proseco in our room to celebrate the occasion and the breakfast offering were very hardy. Our room was a good size with a private bath and very quiet.

It is not near the Vatican but a very short cab ride away. Everything else was within walking distance. I believe we paid 175 euro per night. We had the 2004 Rick Steve's pricing (that's when I booked).

It also has an elevator, which was much appreciated by my DH since I am not a light packer. One restaurant they recommended that was our favorite in Rome was Il Gabrielle. I would highly recommend it. Really small and quiet, great wine list and the food was heavenly. Have a wonderful trip!

Betsy B, we are staying at the Daphne Trevi in the next couple of months. Can you name any of their recommended restaurants that you enjoyed and their location? Also, did you use any of their tours/tour guides? Thank you for your help!!

We are also going to Italy in November for our honeymoon. Being blessed by the pope sounds wonderful. How did you find out about this? Who can do it? Thanks very much!
