Going to Germany end of July!
 

Title says it all folks. Need some advice as where to stay. I have determined that we will stay in Munich for 3 days. I have looked at the Park Plaza Munich in Schwabing. Anyone hear about that hotel? Should not be mistaken for the Park Plaza like in NYC.

Then, we are driving toward Fussen and staying there for about 4 days, then traveling to Garmisch for 3, then driving to airport in Munich.

So, I would like to know what places you would recommend we stay in the later towns. I am looking to spend, at most, 80 EUR. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Instead of Fussen, we drove from Munich to the village of Hohenschwangau (via Linderhof castle) and stayed within walking distance of the ticket center for the two castles. We were at Pension Albrecht, with Neuschwanstein castle right overhead. It was 64 euro double with modern private bath, balcony, free parking, and breakfast included. When we toured Neuschwanstein, we were able to see the pension from some of the windows.

Note: The village of Hohenschwangau is very small and quiet (at least after the daytrippers leave). If you need an active nightlife at your doorstep, it's not for you. But Schwangau and Fussen are just a few minutes drive away.

If you are into adventure vactions, there's a cog railway down the road that takes you up to a hang and paragliding center.

I agree with Rufus - Hohenschwangau is a great little village just below both castles. I recommend the Haus Weiher (formerly Pension Weiher) run by a lovely little lady (Frau Oswald) who serves a great breakfast. The price is about the same as Pension Albrecht and just around the corner. I also recommend a meal at the Meier which is just a short walk from either the Weiher or the Albrecht. Great salads and if the weather is nice - try an outside table. Ben

We stayed in Garmish and took the train into Munich several times.

The HOTEL HILLEPRANDT in Garmisch has worked well for us. It is located in a quiet neighborhood and includes breakfast. Rooms 1 or 2 will have small patios opening to a nice back yard area. The hotel is located close to downtown Garmisch. It is within your price range. We have stayed there many times.
