Going to Capri

Going Sept 11-20 to Rome 2 days, want to visit Isle of Capri for a day tour. Should we go straight to Capri from Rome Airport or take a day trip the next day? We'll also be using Italy Rail. We're going to 3 concerts in each city of Bologna, Verona, Milan. Is Bologna worth staying over or should we stay in Verona & commute to the show in Bologna?
Thanks

Hi hbspice, I have no idea where you are flying from. If from the US I personally would not attempt to do a day trip to Capri after just arriving in Rome. In fact I wouldn't attempt it the next day. I always find the next day although I don't suffer a lot from jet lag that I don't want to shuffle off to somewhere else. And I sure wouldn't want to train to Naples, take the hydrofoil from Naples to Capri, see Capri with all the daytrippers, and than do the return trip to Rome. Maybe it would work for some people, but it sure wouldn't for me.

Three concerts, how fun!!! If you don't mind changing hotels I would stay over in Bologna, that is a beautiful city and antique city with fantastic food and it would be worthwhile to enjoy it while you are there. Milan, Verona and Bologna are all wonderful cities.

May I make a suggestion? You are flying into Rome. You have two days there (two nights or two days?). I would forget about visiting Capri this trip. You probably are flying out of your home airport Sept. 11th, arriving in Rome Sept 12th..assuming you are flying from the US. You will have some jetlag. It sounds like you are flying home Sept. 20th. So you will have 8 nights in Italy. I don't know the sequence of your concerts. Are you flying home from Malepensa airport outside of Milan? Anyway with the length of your trip I truly would not try to see Capri this trip..save it for next time. And I am sure there will be a next time! Best wishes.

From my experience during my visit last year, Rome is about 1.5-2 hours away from Naples by train and then you have to take a ferry over to Capri (another half hour). Wouldn't you rather go and spend a night? I could be wrong, but it seems like a long way to go for a day trip. We stayed there for five days and loved it!

I would stay overnight in Bologna.. nice city, great food, and I found it relaxing.

I would also do the trip to Capri. I was considering not doing this but decided to and was very glad I did.

You could take an early train to Naples from Rome (about 1.5 hours)- then hydrofoil to Capri.. if you can get there in the morning.. you will have a pretty full day, but should not require more than one.. hydrofoil back, and train back to Rome.

It may be more relaxing for you to stay overnight in Sorrento.. great place and you can hydrofoil back to Naples the next day.

Thank you all for your input. A friend at work suggested, also that we do not do Capri but go to Lake Como after our Milan trip. We would have 2 extra days before we head back to Rome for our flight home to NY.

I would have to say that if you are flying from overseas, it would not be a good idea with jetlag to attempt a day trip to Capri as it is a very long day.

You only have two days in Rome and you want to spend one of them in Capri? I am confused. Have you been to Rome before and really don't feel like you want to spend time there?
