going out at night dangerous in Spain ?
 

Mother and daughter (18) travelling in Andalousia and Madrid end of november. What to expect if we want (and we want) to go out at night (flamenco, theater, music...)? Any tips ?

Going out and experiencing the nightlife is one of the joys of visiting Spain! In the big cities you'll find tons of bars, clubs and cafes where you can sit and while away the hours. Spain is generally a very safe country and you're unlikely to run into any trouble there is you behave as you would do at home. I hope you have a marvellous trip!

Christine:<BR>I believe that Spain is safe if you want to go out in the evenings. I just returned from a 2.5 week trip on my own and did not experience any problems on this trip or 2 others (with girlfriends).<BR><BR>However, just like anywhere, you do need to be conscious of your surroundings and exercise good common sense. Thiefs tend to know who they can rob successfully and migrate to them. In Madrid and Barcelona I don't carry my usual daypack and SLR camera, even during daylight hours. Instead I carry a small camera and a purse around my shoulders. I usually don't carry my SLR camera or daypack at all in the evenings because I don't need it. I usually ask at the hotel desk about the area and if there is any area I should avoid in the evenings. I try to avoid walking by myself and instead &quot;follow&quot; a couple that are walking towards the direction I want to go. I carry a tiny flashlight that has saved me from missing steps and cracks in the pavement several times when it's dark (I've also met people this way as they want to walk with me!). I go out at night but won't stay out extremely late (all night!) if I'm by myself. You get the idea.....<BR><BR><BR>Enjoying the evening paseo, tapas, late dinner, flamenco is one of the best parts of Spain. I wouldn't miss this for the world.
