Going on a Pizza Tour, Any suggestions?

Hi, in a month I will be on the Almafi Coast with a friend for two weeks. I want to sample pizzas in different towns this time, anyone know of good pizza places? Some small or family owned ones would be nice. Thanks.

Naples has the best pizzas in the world, we went to the oldest pizza place and it was very good, but I have forgotten the name. Maybe someone else knows.

You will find many good places for pizza in Naples but that is away from the Amalfi coast. In general stick to the places where the locals go. One place I could mention is "pizza margherita" in salerno (this restaurant has a place in Naples as well at riviera di chiaia).

Hi cruelbee,
Great idea, a pizza tour.
I have in my notes:

Pizzeria Bellini In Piazza Bellini, at Via Costantinopoli (just inside Port Alba), Naples.

Lombardi Santa Chiara Via Benedetto Croce 59, Naples

The oldest pizzeria in Naples is Brandi,
Salita S. Anna di Palazzo.
They claim to have invented the pizza Margherita.

See also http://www.thefoodmaven.com/guide/naples_pizza.html

cuelbee-
We happend on a Pizza restaurant in Sorrento- just picked it as we were walking down the street-

Had the MOST awesome Quattro Formagio ( 4 cheeses ) pizza in my life-

Pizza started here--

FOUND out AFTER the pizza, that it was a CHAIN- like our Pizza Huts here-
But it beat ANY pizza that we have had from NYC to CALIF!!

You really can't go wrong anywhere- It must be either the water or the pizza thrower! LOL-- All the crusts were thin and the sauce was miniscule....FABULOUS!!!

You don't "throw" pizza dough. That is why pizza in Napoli is so good--they spread the dough by hand. In the U.S., we use bread dough to make pizza, which is thicker, and is thrown up in the air. The secret to any great pizza, however, is a stone oven heated by a wood fire.

Naples has the best pizza. If you're in the area, try Leon d'Oro, address: Piazza Dante 48. A whole pizza margherita was only about 4 euros.
