Going back home
 

My brother and I, along withour wives, are going back to the UK. We came to the US in 1955 and have been back only twice but never together. Our plan is to stay with relatives in London for the first weekend, travel to the Sussex, Kent area for 6 nights, and back to London before flying home. We want to experience the country side of the UK. Does anyone have any suggestions for good B&B's in that area of the country?

We stayed in a self-catering cottage in Pembury last summer - website below. The location was great - 3 miles outside of Royal Tunbridge Wells with good A-road access. It was a good base for touring the area. The only complaint we had was the sitting room furniture was a little saggy.

I don't have a specific reco but a few suggestions in no particular order.

1)Have a look on Alistair Sawday's website

2)Describe budget and kind of places(s) you want,

3)Consider reposting with a title that better describes your request (B &amp; Bs in Kent/Sussex)

4)Do a text search here for b and b AND kent also b and b AND sussex

5)You might want to consider a self catering place that would accomodate the 4 of you (if you would like to stay together). Much more economical than a b and b I would think.

Thanks for taking the time to help me. I am a first time message boarder so I did not figure out until after I posted the message that I needed more info in the title. Will certainly know next time. I just spent about an hour searching the sites you all have suggested. I'm not really concerned about economy but ambiance, food &amp; drink, and the spirit of England are of high priority. Thanks again for your help.

Sorry..but your post gave me a giggle! My MIL was a WW1 war bride..came to the US in 1918...and until she died in 1997!..always spoke of returning to England as &quot;going home&quot;!

I've stayed in Rye and it is absolutely charming.

For 6 nights I'd think about renting a great cottage in a village somewhere along the Kent East Sussex border. True, cottages will rent for a week - but for 2 couples it would still be cost effective even if you have to &quot;eat&quot; a night.

You will have a LOT more space, your own garden, a kitchen - not that you necessarily want to do any major cooking, but it is nice to be able to have late night snacks and some light meals at home. You get a better feel of living in the village when you can come &quot;home&quot; after a long day of sightseeing.

It has a good interactive map for the whole area - I'd look first in the map zone that includes Cranbrook and Tenterden. This is very central and you would be w/i reasonable drives of everything.
