Gogartys, Dublin
Have been researching Dublin accommodations on the great advice of other Fodorites. Of interest was the 2 bedroom apartment mentioned at a reasonable price on the Gogartys website.
We are 2 couples - early 60's to early 70's and will be in Dublin for 3 nights late Aug 2014. In reading the reviews it mentions 'hostel' but I am wondering if the apartments are separate and would be suitable for our age group. We want something clean and comfortable but not somewhere that we are going to be kept up until all hours with loud music. I do like the idea that we are in a central location for seeing the sights and would enjoy going to the pub for the local Irish music and a decent meal. Your thoughts please. |
These are private rooms within the hostel.. given your age's and the fact that Temple Bar is 18-30 central I would advise against this option.. and the sector.. there are good places around Stephens Green and we stay overnight in Smithfields (Maldron) when meeting guests coming in early.. Just not sure you want to base yourselves in "pre wedding party ville".

I agree with Tony, you are my age and I can party with the best of them but it is very noisy in this area and the kegs start rolling down the streets very early in the morning.

We stayed in a Millenium Walk apartment we rented from staycity. Thought the location was very convenient--about a 10 minute walk from sightseeing, across the street from a Tesco for groceries, right at the Jervis Luas stop.

Thank you very much for your replies. Maybe 40 years ago that would have been an option but doesn't sound like what we are looking for now. :)

this is about as generic as they come but a safe option. I still love Buswells for the hotel, price and location. |
