Only 4 sleeps and we'll be home. It will be nice to sleep in our own bed. The one here is one of those very low platform beds and I have to heave myself out of it in the morning. It's the opposite of our bed at home which SO built years ago and which is quite high. I just have to sort of slide out of it till my feet hit the floor.
I don't have to be back at work till January 3rd so we get some time to catch up with friends and family and do the usual round of doctor, dentist, hairdresser appointments. And manicure/pedicure! God, I haven't had a m/p since August and it's going to be such a luxury!
I hear there's snow at home. UGH!

I really have mixed feelings, sarge. I feel so at home in London and have since the first moment we moved in. I know we'll be back sometime but not likely for a long while.
How are your Italy plans coming along?

I've enjoyed your trip reports and living vicariously through your posts. I hope that when you are home and rested you will post a final trip report with your overall impressions of London. Glad you get a few weeks to resettle into "real' life before going back to work.

That's so true, Emily. I was just saying to SO that for the rest of our lives we'll be saying 'remember when we lived in London and ...' and whenever we see a movie or read a book with scenes of London, we'll have a memory of being in that spot. We were so lucky to have this opportunity and so smart and brave to have taken it. I know it doesn't seem very brave to come to London but there was a lot of stuff happening at home just before we left that we could easily have used as an excuse to cancel. As it turns out, much of it was handle-able from here and our being home wouldn't have made much difference. But those few weeks before we left home were VERY stressful!
I hope everyone (who wants it) gets the opportunity to live in their dream city for at least a few months. Do it before you need to use a walker.

GTG, I have an idea of what you're feeling - at the end of my semester in London I was feeling SO ready to be home and see my family, but at the same time so sad to leave. I've been feeling pretty London-sick lately - I have a fare alert set up on Kayak for any ticket back under $500, which is probably wishful thinking but it gives me hope.

Ah well. I'd like to help you out by staying longer but it's just not in the cards.
Thank you, Patrick. We enjoyed meeting you too. Everyone has been so kind and helpful to us, both the Fodorites we've met in person and those we've only met on-line. We've really been made to feel welcome and at home here so thank you all for that.
Today we had a long, chatty lunch with WHampstead and his friends Andrea and David and then did our best to unearth the living room of all the paper we've collected over the past few months -- maps, restaurant reviews, ticket stubs, museum guides, business cards, newspapers, and my poor torn-to-shreds Fodors London Guide. Tomorrow night we're getting together with bikerscott and jamikins at Leadenhall for drinks and then dinner. We may go a bit early and explore Leadenhall Market. Friday is packing day and then we're out for one final but special London dinner to celebrate our anniversary. And Saturday a car comes to pick us up at 8 a.m. and thus ends our wonderful London adventure.
I don't know if I'll get a chance to post in the next few days. Maybe. But just in case I don't, let me say that I hope that any of you who get a chance to visit Toronto (or even nearby) will let me know and I'll certainly arrange a GTG. And I'd love to show you around my city. But come in the spring, summer or fall.

I've enjoyed reading and learning about, and discovering the many parts of London I never seem to get to despite a dozen visits there through your experiences (and Paris, Berlin and Portugal), so thank you for posting all about it and for telling it so interestingly. I can imagine your mixed feelings at this time as I feel like that too, but it will all pass as you get back into the swing of life at home and familiar faces and routines. You'd be surprised how quickly.
Toronto has arranged a proper welcome for you with subzero temperatures and snow; lots and lots of snow north of Steeles, but hardly any downtown. Its a very sunny, beautiful day today.

Although I haven't posted on your thread before, I have been following your adventures from Day 1, and like so many others, living vicariously in my favourite city. I am going to miss this thread!
Have a safe trip home and have fun sorting through those paper memories. We always have to send boxes of the stuff home for my journal every trip.
Maybe we could arrange a weather merge. Some of your snow for a dollop of our heat here in Sydney Australia and we would both get a reasonable temperature for Christmas.

I've been away for a few days (getting a Christmas @ Disneyland fix) and had no idea the end was so near.
