I just love how Sheryl Crow is considered an "older woman."

TopMan Jul 18th, 2004 12:15 PM

Does the fact that Lance has "taken up" with "an older woman" mean that marriage, as they know it in Texas, is "under attack"??????? Quick, call the morals police.....and GO, LANCE, GO!!!!

As elle says, he is already a Big Winner and I do hope he wins this one too, just because he has worked so hard to get here.

While I know as much about his personal life as the rest of the people remarking on it, I did read that his wifes religion caused the break in their relationship. They seperated once and tried again, but that difference in their beliefs caused the final split.

Which has nothing to do with his being such an Amazing athlete!

Underhill Jul 18th, 2004 03:19 PM

Lance is fabulous--and his stage win came on my birthday. Great present!

But let's not forget the adorable Voekler--what stamina that guy has.

Gretchen Jul 18th, 2004 03:43 PM

Let's see Ryan. Richard Verenque, Ullrich, et al, have been charged with drug use BUT IN SPITE of repeated tests, Lance is CLEAN. Get a life. Why can't people believe that a guy CAN do it--if he treats his body well ALL year (unlike Ullrich), trains, and on and on. Are you with Le MOnde? They test and test and can't find anything.

An exceptional athlete and perhaps a more exception human. I am in awe of his talent.
Go Lance, GO!!

ilovetulips Jul 18th, 2004 03:46 PM

Good luck to our hometown hero, vive le Lance! Go all the way!

Lance in yellow again today!

pgmargate Jul 21st, 2004 07:50 AM

Unless they knock him off his bike #6 is in the bank.

Scarlett Jul 21st, 2004 01:17 PM

I just read that Lance said that the crowds were pretty awful along the way and that the "German fans were disgusting"...I wonder what happened? Anyone know? I know one of the German riders was having a hard time.

BeachBoi Jul 21st, 2004 01:25 PM

Scarlett......My friend there said the crowds were totally obnoxious..his words not mine...They basically ignored the police'efforts to keep them back off the roads so the riders could get through the streets...So the riders had no choice but to race as tho they would run head first into an accident....Dont know any specifics about any one particular group...

Scarlett Jul 21st, 2004 01:26 PM

Thanks BeachBoi!

baylady Jul 21st, 2004 01:27 PM

I heard he was spit upon and alot of the drunk fans got even closer than usual and got out of the way at the last second.

BlueSwimmer Jul 21st, 2004 01:29 PM

There was a great article about Lance's training regimen, lung capacity, etc. in the New Yorker (July 15th, 2002 issue). Sorry I can't find a link online anywhere. I think he's just perfectly adapted for his particular sport. In the same way that my butt is perfectly adapted to my couch:)

Scarlett Jul 21st, 2004 01:38 PM

LOL BlueSwimmer.

He was quoted as saying that there should not even be people along one of the stretches, so that must have been the problem, too close and too obnoxious.

Think this is the article. I remember one of my spin instructors had mentioned he had a much lactate threshold, which allows him to go longer as well as phenomenal max VO2.

amesinc Jul 21st, 2004 02:15 PM

What an exciting time trial! Passing Basso was the "cake" and winning one minute ahead of everyone else was the "eat it too." Go Lance, GO and LIVESTRONG!!!!

elle Jul 21st, 2004 05:09 PM

Did I mention that I've met him and have a snapshot of him? This was back when he was not much more than a kid and the only American cyclist that anyone had ever heard of was Greg LeMonde.

cigalechanta Jul 21st, 2004 05:18 PM

First, a belated happy birthday to underhill.
Back to the race. I don't think they control the crowds enough. The other day, an onlooker with camera collided with one on the riders and didn't try to help him up. Another on-looker did. One jerk ran behind a racer, patting him on the bum, another raised his fists at another racer.
