Gluten-Free in Czech Republic?

I was wondering if anyone had any tips about eating gluten-free in the Czech Republic. Specifically, I am looking for suggestions in Prague, Karlovy Vary, and Cesky Krumlov. Given the nature of the Czech diet, I am worried about eating during my vacation. I must avoid wheat, rye, oats, and barely.

Thank you!

I'm traveling to Prague with my toddler who can't eat dairy so I have been doing some research on health food stores that may sell soy and other alternatives. Here are some that I found, that will hopefully sell gluten-free items. Unfortunately, I have not looked into any restaurants but I recommend contacting the folks that run some of the expat forums to see if any are aware of any restaurants have gluten-free items (kidsinprague.com may be a good start, as someone on that site may have a child who is gluten-free). Good luck!

Albio, Truhlářská 1119/20, near Palladium Mall.

Biotop, Skolska 34.

Country Life, Melantrichova 15.

Thanks Akrobat. I actually found a restaurant that serves traditional Czech food prepared gluten-free. The owner's daughter has Celiac Disease. It's called Švejk Restaurant U Karla.

Also, I have found that searching on a particular brand might help you narrow down which stores have speciality foods. For example, Schar's website lets you do an international search for their products. This usually narrows down the organic markets and pharmacies.

Good luck on your trip too!

Hi, Celiac runs in my family so this topic is often on our radar. I recently found this thread: http://www.expats.cz/prague/article/...tarian-prague/ with a few suggestions and the Czech term for gluten-free.

There's also an older thread from Trip Advisor: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic...e_Bohemia.html

Best wishes, I know it can be challenging to eat away from home.

I have been in U Karla few times,I stayed near there a couple of years ago.It is a very good place and the portions very generous.Ok I wasn't eating the gluten free food but what I gad was great.
it is also just a few door awat from the U Fleku brewery bar that is the biggest tourist trp in the city.go in there to try their very good beer and a bloody awful rendition of the Beer Barrel Polka (Roll out the Barrel) on the accordian,it is played almost constantly.

You can check Gluten Free Hotels Guide (http://www.glutenfreehotelsguide.com ) for hotels that serve gluten free food.
I know they have hotels in Prague (available at http://www.glutenfreehotelsguide.com/city.php?id=25 ).

I actually ended up having two very delicious 100% gluten-free meals while in Prague. There is actually an entire restaurant is totally gluten-free. http://glutenfreeglobetrotter.com/ca...europe/prague/

One thing to look out for is "gluten-free" wheat starch. The PPM levels of gluten vary from country to country so I made sure to avoid this while in the Czech Republic.
