globus tours

Has anyone done a globus tour to Italy? I would appreciate your comments and input on your own itinerary. We are considering "Grand Tour of Italy and Sicily"for 16 days.

Are there any other tour companies you would suggest?

A long time ago I took a Globus escorted tour, but it wasn't to Italy solely. On the whole, all I remember is that we didn't have much time seeing the sights. It's all timed and we were on the bus most of the time.

My parents did the Grand tour of Italy and Sicily through Trafalgar with no complaints, had a wonderful time. Trafalgar offers some excellent advance booking discounts and www.trafalgartours4less.com offers 14% off your land price as well. If you are still interrested in Globus still get a quote through trafalgartours4less, they discount all tour companies.

I took a Globus Tour in 1999..my first trip to Europe. It was not just Italy. You need to check the itinerary and you will see where you go and how many nights in each city. There are different tours. Mine was 16 days so with the two travel days we actually had a full 14 days on the ground..so to speak. We actauly had a fair amount of free time. We started in London and ended in Rome. Our tour director was hooking up with a new tour in Rome and going back to London. It was basically the same tour we had done but going backwards and was only 12 days so much faster paced. I think you have to think of your travel style or like in my case I'd never been to Europe so didn't really have a style..I just went. I learned a great deal, it was a great introduction for me, everything went well, the hotels were really nice but not in the city center. That really wasn't a problem because of tube, metro etc. but having been back again on my own, I appreciate a hotel more in the city center. Globus usually will offer options so check your literature. If you don't elect to take some of the extras you should have more free time if that appeals to you. We stayed 3 nights in London, 3 nights in Paris, 2 nights in Lucerne, 1 night in Florence, 2 nights in Venice, and 3 nights is Rome. We had one full day on our own in London, Paris, and Rome. I will say that by the time we got to Rome I was getting pretty tired. But that's just me. There are people who travel on their own and just go go go all the time. I know from my one tour experience, that should I ever have reason to take another that I will never, ever do one of those different city every night kind. The one overnight we had in Florence was enough to convince me that I would never do the "if it's tuesday it must be Belgum" things. I think Globus is a good company, they have a good reputation, and the prices are good. There can always be an occasion where things might go wrong no matter how you travel. Over all I was happy with the trip and the company. I would suggest for perhaps more in depth reviews and answers to your question, that you try the group travel or group tour boards. I have a friend that did a Maupin tour of Italy earlier this year. Maupin is, I believe, more upscale than Globus and would proably be more expensive. I haven't really had time to discuss her trip in depth with her since she got back. Good luck and I hope you get the information you need and have a wonderful trip.

Maupin will be at least 4 times more exepnsive than Globus. They are a 5* tour company. We did the Maupin tour of Italy 16 days and now the prices are running over 8k per person.

Based on our Globus tour of Europe some years ago I realize one is on the move alot but as said it is a good company with good prices. We were two nights in several places but it is true that you are on the go rather than settled in one place such as when you are traveling your own or with Elderhostel or Grand Circle. But that way you do catch the highlights. Perillo is a good company for Italy of course. And yes, you might spend extra days somewhere after the tour is over.

My husband and I booked a Cosmos Tour for our honeymoon (this is the cheaper version of same company, Globus). We enjoyed it very much! It was a 13 day tour starting in London ending in Rome. It gave us a great over view of Europe, and now we know where we want to go back to explore futher..
