Marta: I took a Globus tour a few years ago from London thru Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy, France and back to London. Since I was alone, it worked pretty well for me, but the tour guide really worked us for the "extras" and was not very nice to those who didn't go on the additional excursions (dinners, etc.) Also, the hotels we stayed in were nice, but on the outskirts of town usually and (the worst thing for me) we were always GOING. Up very early every morning to have bags packed and out by the door on time, then breakfast and on the bus with lots and lots of driving time. Since you are only going to one country, it probably won't be so bad, esp. if you just do something like Rome, Venice, Florence and try to take a tour that lets you stay more than one night in each place. enjoy.

On most organized tours, you will find yourselves on the go, lots of driving time and having to have bags out early, etc. We used Globus back in 91 for a tour of Eastern Europe and were especially aprehensive because of going to that area. Everything turned out to be wonderful, hotels, meals and the personnel. We were very pleased with Globus.

I took my mother (who has trouble walking) on a 16 day globus tour last year. We visited 6 countries in that time. I was very pleased with Globus, they were very organized and professional and out guide and driver were great. I agree with the above post regarding the optional excursions. They are really worth going on but you will spend more money. We took almost all of the extra trips and spent $600 extra each over the 16 days. The problem with not taking the extras is that you are sort of on your own. It's great for people who want to be on their own but if you really aren't comfortable getting around without a guide, you better pay and stay with the bus. Our guide made every effort to assist those who did not take the extra tours but a few times these people were left to find their way back to the hotels on their own. The trips are busy and on a very tight time schedule but it's great for older people since they can rest on the bus and walking can be kept to a minimum if need be. I had a great time and would recommend globus. Pack light and have a great time.
