Glendolough fine dining?
Hello all...
heading to Glendolough this month while on a bit of an Irish tour, and would like to treat my American parents to an anniversary celebrating 54 years! Can anyone recommend anyplace nice with a bit of an idea of cost for us? much thanks! |
Hi sully:
The Glendasan River Restaurant at the Glendalough Hotel is probably the right choice. I've never eaten there, but heard very good things about it and it's a beautiful place. We were a bit underdressed when we visited. You don't need a coat and tie as I remember, but muddy jeans from hiking in a downpour was not a good choice either. My memory is that the prices were upscale but not outrageous. That was 4 years ago though. Here is a link to their website: http://www.glendaloughhotel.com/dining_facilities Bill |
The Wicklow Heather is excellent. I remember years ago when it was a greasy spoon. My how things change. It has expanded, changed owners and has great chefs. It now serves gourmet food at reasonable prices (for Ireland). I suggest making reservations and asking to be seated in a more intimate section of the restaurant (there is one room that is huge - maybe for tour groups). Phone: 0404 45157.

The website for the Glendolough hotel looks brand new but the hotel in General a few months back still looked the same. I have never heard grreat things about the food here. Check tripadvisor for the hotel. I think you can do better than here. there is very little fine dining in the area from my knowledge unless you go outside Laragh/Glendolough

I had a wonderful meal at the Wicklow Heather six years ago... still reminisce about it sometimes. I recommend it!

Thanks for the info Siobhan. I thought I had heard good things about the restaurant. It's been a while since I've been in the area.

The restaurant at the Glendalough Hotel is fine. It is just that the Wicklow Heather is so much better. It is not a real fancy place but has gourmet quality food.

I don't know about that place but it seems to get the thumbs up from all here why not try it or wait till you get to a city for a more upmarket place.
