Glass ornaments in Frankfurt
 

We will be in Frankfurt for a couple of days next weekend and I'm hoping to be able to purchase glass Christmas ornaments while I'm in Frankfurt. Does anyone have suggestions for where to shop for Christmas ornaments? I grew up with my parents beautiful German glass ornaments and I'd like to be able to add to our collection. I'm looking for Santas, Angels, birds etc.

Any department store along the Zeil (Frankfurt's main pedestrian zone) will have Christmas ornaments.

You will find some at the market, Frankfurt is not know for its Chistmas Markets. I agree with treplow that you should head to some of the large department stores to see what they carry. If you have a car for the wwekend by chance there are many other places that have good markets to see, of course you could always head to Laucha.

Sadly we don't have a car and we're very limited for time.

Actually, their Christmas market is quite nice. It's not on the size of Nurnburg, but it still fair size. I don't remember any glass ornament places specifically, but would guess there are some. Also, at least last year, there was a nice stall in the middle of the Zeil (the main shopping street), towards the right as you come from the Romerplatz/Main Square. As others have mentioned, the department stores should have Christmas departments with a fair selection as well. There's even a small "market" at the train station, but I can't recall if they sell glass ornaments.

Be very carefull in packing them and geting them home. My daughter mailed me a beautiful tree topper from Germany last year while she was there. It was packed in foam, paper, and buble wrap and then boxed, but when I received it, it had a big crack in it. They are vrey fragile.

As with a lot of the goods on sale at the "Christmas Markets" check the label to see where they are made. More and more items from China are on sale these days. Not a bad thing but they certainly are not "German" and in some cases are just as cheap, if not cheaper, at home.

We've got bubble wrap and we plan to carry them on if we buy anything. Thanks for the tips!
