Glasgow, Scotland excursions.
 

I will be going on a British isle cruise. I have decided on what I am going to do on all the ports except for Glasgow, Scotland. I have narrowed it down to 3 excursions that I would like to go on ,but can’t decide between them and wondered if someone has been to any and can offer an up an opinion on them.

The choices are to visit:

1.Culzean Castle.
2. Inveraray Castle
3. FalkirkWheel.

Why don't you visit Glasgow itself?

The Falkirk Wheel is one the most marvelous useless contraptions I have ever seen.

Since we have no idea what sorts of things interest you, can't really advise. I have been to all three multiple times (only twice to the Wheel)

They are all totally different. If it was MY trip, which it isn't, I'd do Culzean. The setting is dramatic, the building architecturally interesting.

But maybe you are an engineering geek and would love the Falkirk Wheel.

Plus what else does each excursion include -- I assume all three include other stops or features . . .

Plus -- as thursdaysd suggests -- Glasgow offers a LOT especially if one is interested in Charles Rennie Mackintosh and/or great museums.

What sort of places are you visiting on other shore excursions? If you are seeing other castles and stately homes, maybe you'd want something other than Culzean or Invereray.

My main comment would be that the Inveraray excursion probably goes via Loch Lomond, and in fact some of them take the ferry across the Firth of Clyde to Dunoon, then make a big loop through Inveraray up to Kilchurn Castle on Loch Awe before returning to Greenock (where the ships dock) via Loch Lomond. Those trips would give you a tremendous selection of wonderful Highland scenery.

On the other hand, if you're a Burns fan, the Culzean Castle trip probably includes some stops in Burns Country, which is also quite wonderful. Again, depends on the details and your preferences.

The trip to the Falkirk Wheel must include something else, because in half an hour, you can see all there is to see there. Maybe another fifteen minutes for the queue for the toilets, if several tour buses arrive at the same time.

I myself would visit Glasgow on my own rather than take a tour.

Not if you ride it. Which would be a must IMO. If the tour doesn't include a boat ride forget it.
