Unfortunately none of these are available for the time I need. This is a large event and it seems I may be a bit late in making plans.
Would you happen to know of any B&B's or apartments nearby?

For a pleasant budghet option, I've stayed a couple of times at the Premier Travel Inn George Street which is just about 5 minutes walk from Queen St station & 10 minutes from the RCH.

Or let us know your budget & we can suggest more places.

Curious - what on earth is the event, that gets the whole city booked up 9 months in advance ?? Do I need to know about it ?!

Thanks everyone...I don't have a budget at this time so I'm willing to look at everything. I will be travelling with my husband and two teenage daughters. The time in Glasgow is going to be all about convenience.

Caroline you probably want to stay as far away as possible...It is the World Championships of Irish Dance. Thousands of dancing boys and girls and their crazy parents!

I find it hard to believe everywhere will be booked up by now, though.

If it's not too cheap for you, try the Travel Inn I suggested. Or for a more expensive (but not ferociously expensive) option right on George Square, try the Millennium.

Hi id mom, we attended the same event in 2002, when it was held at the convention center. (Daughter was in the 14 and under.) It was crazy trying to make reservations. (We ended up at the Hilton, which is <i>theoretically</i> within walking distance of the convention center.)

Making your reservations as late as this, you may want to stay farther out and rent a car. A very good source of info for our ID school was the parent network--- dancers' Irish parents who had friends who knew people with B &amp; B's or who had stayed at B&amp;Bs there. The ID message boards might also be a good place to get information on accomodations. Unless you get lucky, it will be hard to get something close enough to walk with all the gear you have to take :)

People who are surprised at the 9 months advance booking don't realize how this event is anticipated worldwide!
At our last three oireachtus', as soon as the results were announced you could see parents whip out their cell phones and pay for plane reservations they'd made during the previous 24 hours. Some people already had hotel reservations they could cancel, anticipating from previous years that their dancers would qualify for worlds.

Update...I emailed one of these hotels and it seems they will take reservations if contacted directly. Not sure why but I did get a room. Thanks for all of your help.

My daughter qualified for three years in a row, (9th, 10th 11th grades). She went to boarding school her senior year of h.s. and could not keep up with the championship classes and her schoolwork, and there was quite a bit of driving to an id school. I hated that she gave it up, but she still practices at Georgia Tech where she just finished her freshman year. Workload there too heavy to try to keep dancing, and she isn't at her former level now anyway. One of our sons danced for several years, placed in one oireachtus, but mainly did it for fun and exercise, and because he was dragged along to feisanna with his sister! I kind of miss all the feis traveling we did.

Congratulations to your dancer, and good luck at World's. It's CRAZY--like an &quot;o&quot; but even more so. You will have the time of your life. Heartily recommend you go early or stay after and spend some time in Scotland. It's a beautiful country if you haven't seen it, and Ryanair flights to other parts of the UK are very inexpensive.
