Glasgow-Edinburgh: Cost of Cab?

Does anyone know the approximate cost of taking a cab from the airport in Glasgow to center city Edinburgh? -Do not want to take the train - Thanks

I can't possibly imagine taking a cab for that trip - it is more than 50 miles. I'd figure on at least £100 plus tip.

Not the kind of luxury that my budget allows, but my rule of thumb for taxi journeys outside cities in the UK is £2 to £2.50 per mile. I would guess you are looking at £110 to £140 for the 55 miles.

Are you kidding? Firstly, you'd need to find a cab to take you - OK so some will prebook, but if you're relying on arriving at Glasgow Airport and just getting one then I strongly suspect you'll get what Manchester Utd players refer to as "the hairdryer treatment!"

Then, as some below have said, it's about 50 - 60 miles point to point, and based on Edinburgh's rates I think you'd be looking at closer to £150 for the journey. For that price, you could rent a car in Glasgow, return it in Edinburgh and probably still have some change left over.

If you REALLY don't want to take the train, you could take the bus from Glasgow Airport.

Hi miss,

You might also consider a private limo.

Why don't you wish to take the train?

Thank you everybody for the tips - I'm looking for a hazzle free way to get from one point to another - I have been stood up, after prepaying, by private limo driver services so don't have too much faith in them -If I arrive at Glasgow Airport I will need to get a cab or shuttle to the train station and then transportation from train station to Edinburgh Hotel - We are two 60 some year olds coming off a cruise with 3 large suitcases not backpacking teenagers so what would be my best bet?thank you for your help

well - my first suggestion is to cut back on all the luggage -- but that doesn't have any bearing on whether you should take a cab or not.

You can VERY easily take the airport coach to the very center of Edinburgh and then if you wish a cab for the short ride to your hotel. You would not have to pre-book the bus and it would save you more than £100.

If money is no object, then get a cab --- and then the cab driver will have months of sport telling one and all about the two "little old ladies" he drove all the way to Edinburgh :-)

Actually, my first word of advice, is fly into Edinburgh, not Glasgow.

If you can't achieve that, the bus is the easy option. If you email me, I'll give the number of two cab companies and you can get one of them to pick you up at the terminus in Edinburgh
