Glasgow Bed & Breakffasts

Hi,

Will have a car but do not want to drive in the city. Can anyone recommend a reasonable but nice B&B on the outskirts of Glasgow? It needs to have accessible public transportaion to the city nearby. Any ideas. Thanks.

1) what is your budget, and 2) where are you driving in from and where are you driving afterwards? (Makes a difference re which areas make sense)

We are still in the planning stage for a trip the end of July, but as of now we are planning to drive up from the Lakes District and stay in Glasgow a few nights before heading to Oban or Fort Williams. We do not want to drive in the city so we will need easy public access to the city. We want good value, but would like to stay under $100 for a double. Also, we like B&Bs but a hotel will be fine. Someone mentioned the Kelvin Hotel. Does any one know about it? Thanks.

"under $100 for a double"

I can't think of too many decent places in Glasgow for less than £50 double.

The Kelvin is over that rate and does not have parking. Of course there is street parking, but that can be a problem. It is a good, basic hotel - but will run about $110 - $130 a night. If you want to spend less than that, you might be better served avoiding the big cities altogether and sticking to the countryside. Inexpensive B&Bs are easier to find in rural areas.

I am curious - have you found a place in the Lake District for under $100? The typical B&B in that area will run £30-£40 pppn, though there are some for less.

Staying with friend in the Lake District. I just checked the Kelvin Hotel website and it is £24-28 per night depending on season. Just wondering if it is safe to park and easy to drive to.

that £24-£28 at the Kelvin is w/o a bathroom. The rates I mentioned are for rooms w/ a bath/shower and toilet.

If you don't want a private or ensuite bathroom - then you probably can find lots places in your price range.

it will be safe to park -- its is finding parking that can be a problem.

Please recommend one or two others that would meet our needs mentioned? I don't seem to find any. Thanks.
