Without knowing more about what you consider good quality or walking distance my best suggestion would be The Kelvingrove Hotel. Equidistant between the West End and City Centre it might meet your requirements.

OK. I'd look at Malmaison, the Hilton, Adelaides, and Hotel du Vin.
If it were me, I'd stay at the Babbity Bowster- which I suspect is NOT what you're looking for, but which I love dearly; or Rab Ha's.

hi Sheila
My husband and I are also staying in Glasgow in May. I Googled Babbity Bowster and couldn't access a satisfactory site. Do you have a link? We prefer to stay at an quirky, interesting place as opposed to an Americanized" hotel. Perhaps you could help out with another concern we have. We would like to rent a car to get to our Base home in Callander. Not having driven on the left before, my husband is not too enthused about picking the car up at the airport and then taking his maiden trip through a strange city to get to Callander. So, if we were to stay the night in Glasgow, what area should we stay in and subsequently rent a car from?

Isn't it funny how search engine's work.
I put "Babbity Bowster" and it's fourth on the list, the top three being reviews of it.
That, however, is where the good news stops. Its own web page is down or something. there is stuff on tripadvisor, or you'll get some stuff of this Central Belt guide:-

As to driving to Callendar, a) it's a motorway (freeway) all the way through Glasgow. Having said that, it's not my favourite since the exits can be on either side of the carriageway; b) a good alternative would be to get the car at the airport, go west and cross the Erskine Bridge, follow signposts to Loch Lomond and Balloch, and go north via Drymen and Aberfoyle.
