Glacier Express Train Switzerland

As you guy knows by now me and my wife are planning a trip in late May of this year to Switzerland and Italy, I'm considering as part of my itineray to include a trip in the Glacier Express, but in order to do this, we will have to negotiate this trip that will include 3 stop over.
From Bern to Zurich from Zurich to Chur to board the Glacier Express and then from Brig to Stresa, Italy, in the other hand we can go from Bern to Stresa non-stop.
The whole idea is to experience the Glacier Express and the Alps, but considering that we are traveling with luggage and our legs are not to good, Im wondering is this effort will
be compensated or by the contrary we could have a good feeling of the Alps by going in the regular train.
Thanks for all your help.

Hi norberto,

Do I understand that your basic routing is Bern to Stresa, and you want to know if the detour through Zurich, Chur & Brig would be worthwhile?

If that's so, I must say emphatically not. The normal routing is 2h34, 2h55, or 3h11, with either 1 or 0 connections. These routings will take you past the mountains of Thun, Spiez, & Brig anyway. No need to detour all the way to Zurich & Chur.

You can get all your schedule information at www.rail.ch.

Fully agree with swandav. The route Bern - Brig is scenic too. No need to take this huge detour only to ride the Glacier Express from Chur to Brig.

Is Stresa your destination in Italy? If not the Bernina Express would be an option (more scenic) ending in Tirano/Italy from where you have train connection to Milan or bus connection to Lugano.

Thanks to all of you for your help and advise.
Yes, altough our final destination is not Stresa in Italy, this is one of our stop for this trip, we already have reservation to stay at this town for 3 nights.
Our initial idea was to ride from Milano to St. Moritz via Bernina Express stay in St. Moritz for one night and then take the Glacier Express to Stresa, but I so of abodoned that idea, because the of St. Moritz my wife does suffer from high blood and the altitude of St. Moritz may affect her.
Thanks again for your help.

Hy guys:
Also the reason of why I was thinking of going from Bern to Stresa via Zurich-Chur-Brig-Stresa is because in my way up to Bern we will travel Milan-Bern, however as you guys say is worthless such a long journey to see almost the same views.
Thanks a Million.
Norberto.

Having taken the Glacier Express three times now, I must say it doesn't deserve the hype it gets. The first class observation cars are unbearably hot if the sun is out, the seats are actually less comfortable than on many other trains, and there are several other routes in Switzerland that are far more spectacular.
