Giverny in October
I'll be in Paris in a few weeks!! I can't wait!! Just wondering if October would be a good time to go to Giverny?
|
Sooosally, I was there in May when the garden was lovely with a few clouds passing overhead. I can not speak about October except to say the Monet's house would be of interest at any time of the year if you are a lover of his work. The gardens might be passe but the small pond, foot bridge, pathways etc. would provide visitors with a sense of the landscape that inspired so many of Monet's works. The gift shop is worth while too. If you have time, you might wander around the town to get the flavor of Monet’s world. If I recall, Monet chose Giverny for his home because it was on the rail line from Paris in the late 19th century.

I haven't been there in October but it is open and there will be flowers blooming! I bet it will be pretty with the fall colors. Here's a website that will give you info about it and also a calendar that lists what will be blooming:

Thanks for the info. I'll probably try to go.

I've been there in late October. Not very many flowers and definitely no water lilies. We found Monet's house more interesting than the garden.

Sooosally,
We visited in mid-Oct a few years ago and I was surprised to see lots of seasonal blooming flowers. I asked, the the answer was that their gardeners re-plant season blooms out of the hothouses every season!! My friend was a bit disillusioned. I thought it was fine. |
My husband and I visited Giverny the second week of October in 2007. It was beautiful. We weren't sure if anything would be blooming but there was plenty. It was a nice day, a few puffy clouds and warm weather. I would definitely recommend going. I hope you enjoy it!
