What is available in Giverny in the evenings? Is there tourist sites open or local markets or shops open?

I think you'd be asking about Vernon, the town near Giverny, which is where the train station is. It's a small town and doesn't have a lot of tourist sites. There are a couple museums (one near Giverny, American Art musem), but they aren't open in the evenings. I didn't see any interesting shops there, but I wasn't in a large part of it. There is no village as such at Giverny with shops etc. About 500 meters from Monet's home on the main road by the parking lot you can buy some great apple cake and ice cold cider though. Don't think I could make an evening of cider and apple cake though as there are no potties nearby. One other thing; don't count on finding a truely private spot in the nearby woods either.

When we were there a few years ago, some people told us about (what they said was) an absolutely fabulous restaurant called Le Moulin de Fourges nearby. Check out Giverny.org/restos/fourges/index/htm for more information. We didn't try it because we had to be back in Paris to pack and catch a flight out, but from the way they spoke about it, I think we will next time.

We loved Monet's garden and home (but I'm a BIG Monet fan) and walking along the roads, the area was very nice.

If you like Monet, there is an excellent show called "Manet and the Sea" at the Philadelphia Art Museum right now. I went last Saturday.

In addition to paintings by Edouard Manet, there are plenty by Claude Monet and Renoir. Fabulous show!

After seeing the special exhibit, I visited a lot of other areas in the museum. The museum is a humdinger!
