I am a bit late on this thread. But my advice is to try to keep a daily travel journal. At the time everything is so fresh and memorable. But believe me, you forget things.[ Yes, we are getting older!!] My biggest regret from our first trip is that I did not keep a diary. We often look back at my journals of later trips and when I read my thoughts and impressions it reminds us of the sometimes small things that make it special. At the end of each day we sit down and I write up my diary [ whether written or electronic] and DH edits the day's photos. Much easier than getting home with thousands of photos and it all becomes too much.
Have a great trip.
