Gite in Dordogne
My husband and I are looking for a gite in the Dordogne or Languedoc to rent for a week in June. Our main interest is food so good restaurants and a nice market nearby are a must! We would like to be able to walk to a Boulangerie in the mornings. Being somewhere off the main tourist track is also important. We will be driving from San Sebastian . Any recommendations would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Georgie

A lot of the Dordogne gites and rental properties that we looked at a couple of years ago were either outside of town (too out-of-the-way for us), or smack in the middle of a larger town (and we wanted a small-town experience). We eventually found a nice, roomy old house in a charming yet unexceptional village called Daglan.
It was perfect for us, because the town had exactly one of everything. One nice restaurant. One funky pub-restaurant. One bakery (50 yards from front door). One grocery/market. One post office. One ATM. And one cute little town square.
And while it was off the main tourist track, it was also a very quick and easy drive to Domme, Cenac or Castelnaud.
FYI, we rented the place from SimplyPerigord.com

several years ago we stayed at a place called La Gueriniere. It was a couple of km. outside domme/cenac. We walked into town several times. There were more pleasant walks on the backroads in the surrounding countryside. It was a 10-15 minute drive to Sarlat. There were numerous restarants in Domme. A couple of boulangeries in Cenac. A great location. There website is La-gueriniere-dordogne.com
