Girona overnight stay

Hi everyone,

My husband and I are planning a day trip to Figueres & Girona from Barcelona in March. We are planning on taking the train. From what I've read people like their stay in Girona so we are staying there overnight. MY first question is : is the train station in Girona within walking distance to the city proper?? Are cabs available?? Also, any hotel suggestions???

We both are getting excited on this trip, the long winter here in the midwest makes our wait even more exciting.

Girona train station is not far from the center and you will find a taxi stand on Plaça d'Espanya.
Make sure you buy a ticket to Figueres proper and not Figueres Vilafant which is the new TGV station and quite a distance from the city.
Hotel Historic, C/Bellmirall has good reviews.

I recommend Hotel Historic as well. We stayed there for 2 nights this past October & loved our visit. We had an apartment; it's in a great location; & Javier is very helpful with restaurant & sighseeting suggestions. You can read my trip report by clicking on my name.

Sorry to hijack your thread but I am leaving tomorrow on a 2 day layover for work in Barcelona and have thought of going to Girona for the day this week.
Would everyone recommend just a daytrip there this week-weather will be around 60F which would be greatly welcomed being from Chicago. Also, suggestion for a restaurant near the water that has great seafood? Thanks so much-

Would also recommend Hotel Historic. If they do not have space, you might also try Hotel Llegendes.

Thank you for your suggestions and replies. I enjoyed reading your trip report Kwoo--makes me more excited!
I have another quick question, since we are taking the train--is it advisable to get it online or should we just buy it there??

Enjoy your trip Dutyfree!

For the short distance involved and provided you do not take an "international" (fast)train it is not worth buying it online.
Tickets cost between €6.90 and €9.20 on regional trains and €20 on fast trains.

We are in a similar situation for a 1 night in May, but cannot get the Hotel Historic site to accept less than a 2 night reservation. Any thoughts?

Hi Virginiafish, I did email HotelHistoric & they promptly replied. They do accept 1 night reservation, I will be calling them this week to reserve.. email them & they'd give you the # to call.

We stayed at the Ciutat de Girona, similar price to the Historic but a little cheaper, and loved it. Nice and modern which was a great contrast to the fabulous old town. They rank 3rd and 2nd respectively on Tripadvisor so am sure both would be fine.

Hi everybody.

In the end of October 2011 I'm planning to visit Girona for 3-4 nights. Does anybody know where to stay? I need cheaper solution than hotels with 4 stars. Thank you for recommendation.
