Girona - Hotel Bellmiral
 

Looking for feedback on this hotel in Girona. Also trying to find a fax or email address. I've only got a phone number and unfortunately don't speak much spanish (or catalon).<BR>

Cathy,<BR>We stayed at the Bellmirall last year and thought that it had a wonderful location and also that it had fantastic proprietors. The rooms however left a lot to be desired...the bathroom was fairly non-existant and the rooms were tiny but full of character. We contacted them by mail and they sent us a reply right away. Girona is a magical city and this might be the best that you can do location-wise but it would be interesting to see if there were more options! Lisa

I loved LIsa's posting, LOL....you can try these two hotels in the old part of town,Macia Gran Via, 3*, fax 958 28 55 91 and the Macia PLaza, fax 958 2275 33,2*. Actually I haven t been there but I am taking the inf. from a reliable Spanish guide book, but I have visited Girona and I agree it is<BR>a magical city.

I stayed at the Bellmiral two years ago. At that time the proprietors said they were going to close so I am so Happy to hear they are still open. The Bellmiral is the ONLY hotel that is in the historic district. All the rest are in the modern part across a bridge and they might have bigger bathrooms but they are awfully sterile. <BR>The hotel is all the way at the top of the town. If you are driving you will see signs saying you can't cross the bridge and enter the old town but disregard, if you have a letter from them you can drive to the hotel. This is rather important since there's something like 160 steps up to the top of the old town. Girona is just an incredible place. I loved the oldness of the rooms at the Bellmirral. I believe its 16th or 17th cent. Who cares about the bathroom being small. An enchanted place.

CathyM,<BR>I just searched my gazillion Spain guides and can't find an email or a fax for the Bellmiral, not even in the Michelin or the Official Guide to Hotels, where it's listed as a 2 star pension. I don't think they have either.<BR><BR>If you don't have a car, I agree with Imelda- the Bellmiral is your best option, right in the heart of the Call, the medieval Jewish quarter. As she says, the other hotels are across the river in the modern section or on the way out of town. <BR><BR>On our last visit we stayed at the 3 star Costabella, a former NH, now a Sercotel (with small rooms, pool, up to date baths), but only because they accept Bancotel coupons yr. round (we were using them for our city stays), it cost only $50 (1 voucher), and we spent the days out and about, touring by car. It and the other business class hotels (Husa Ultonia, Melia Confort) are sterile-functional-impersonal-bland without Old World charm or Catalan atmosphere, if that's what you enjoy, although they're comfortable. The Carlemany is the "fanciest" of the small lot but not much to look at on the outside.

Thanks to all. It looks like I'll have to attempt to make a telephone call for the reservations if we want to stay at Hotel Bellmiral - it will be a good "test" before the trip.<BR><BR>We'll only be there one night so we won't need ultra comfort. Just looking for location and atmosphere mostly.
