Has anyone visited the Island of Giglio? How did you get there? Is it worth the trip? Thanks very much.

oh, don't miss it. I spent many and many weeks in last summers.<BR>There is ship from Porto Santo Stefano.<BR>I suggest you a magic hotel: Pardini's Hermitage, in a place on the island, named Cala degli Alberi. This hotel is a villa with only 13 rooms and you reach it only from the sea.<BR>Have a nice trip.

I think it's Bon Apetit that has a special issue this month on the Mediterranean and it includes a one or two page layout on Pardini's Hermitage. Check it out. Looks kind of funky but fun.

Vincenzo, if you had to choose between Giglio and Ponza, which would you select?

I LOVED Giglio, but be advised there is really nothing to do there but hang out on the beach, and eat great seafood : ) I would definitely recommend the place I stayed - Hotel Demo.<BR>A question for Vincenzo (or anyone else)- I'm considering Procida or Ischia for my next trip - how do they compare with Giglio? Thanks!

I should add...<BR>If you're travelling by train, take the train to Orbetello, then a short bus ride to Porto Santo Stefano. From there you get the ferry to the island.

Nutella, I have three further questions:<BR>1. How long was the bus ride from Orbetello to P. S. Stefano?<BR>2. How long was the ferry ride to Giglio?<BR>3. Did you visit Giglio Castello and what was it like?<BR>4. How many days on the island before getting bored?<BR>5. What month were you there?

GAC,<BR>The bus was approx 15 minutes, the ferry was approx 1 hr. Between the two different ferry lines, they ran frequently, so I didnt even worry about timing my train and bus to correspond with departures. I was there in the middle of Sept. It was very quiet and no crowds, but restaurants were full. I believe it was the last official weekend of "the season." I was there for 3 nights (2 full days) which was perfect. My hotel was on the main harbor, Castello is a cab or bus ride away atop the mountain. I cant tell you much about it, sorry, went for dinner one night and it was dark, and stopped briefly in the main square during the day. It seemed small and not someplace you'd spend much time. Although people live on the island, 99% of the people there were Italian tourists, and some Germans. Castello wasnt where you'd go to experience real "town" life.
