Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what gift(s) I could send to my German friend in Japan. I know it is a bit random, but I've read a lot of cool things that people have suggested for their family and friends overseas int his forum, so I wanted to know what ideas people had and what they suggest. All I know he is missing Ritter chocolate from Germany! :D

Beer or Mezzo Mix (or Schwip Schwap or Spezi) would be my suggestions but drinks would be expensive to ship because of the weight.

German cookies, chocolate, mustard, curry ketchup, and Haribo candies might be appreciated.

What part of Germany is your friend from?

What would a German miss most?

Dark bread first of all (only the packed stuff would survive the long transport without going mouldy, though).
Nutella (heavy, though), gummi bears, chocolate, pack of small salted pretzels.
Paper handkerchiefs, the sturdier folded ones that come in packs of 10, not flimsy Kleenex. I hear that these are unavailable for example in the USA, not sure about Japan.

Disclaimer: I have no idea whether Japan has any quarantine regulations and bans on importing food items! Meat products like Schinken are probably a no-go from the beginning.

They have them. I have seen them. They just do not enjoy the same popularity that they do in The Fatherland.

Well, I hear of Germans living in the US who carry loads of them back home after every visit to Germany.

He is from Stuttgart and I wanted to surprise him actually. I was also thinking about bread because that seems to be what he misses the most. but I checked customs and I cannot deliver bread :)

Quokka you have great ideas! I love the linen bag idea too.

I wanted to send him a small box of german confectionary (thought it'd be the easiest and best thing to do). Anyway I googled small german gift boxes and came across a site called, little german box. I'm sending him one if those. I think it's awesome! Also, it saves me time going to the shops and packing it myself! :) :)
