Gift from us to Paris friends

I need some help,we will be in Paris for our vacation May 11-20th.A business aquaintance of my husband has offered to pick us up at the airport and take us to our apartment.Later in the week,we will meet with him and his wife for dinner.I would like to bring a gift from PA for them.Any ideas?

Is the dinner @ their place or at a resto/bistro/cafe? That makes a big difference to me. There is nothing like getting a moderately sized gift that you must hold on to all night long and look after. The moderate size can seem quite large as the night rolls along.

Forget it. Get them some good champagne or wine upon arrival.

The dinner will be at a restaurant.

Anything that the French want from the United States is now readily available for sale in France. That's what globalization did. Anything that is not for sale already is probably of no interest to French consumers.

Hold the scrapple and get them a nice bottle of wine when you get there.

If you want to bring something, have it local to your area.

I like bringing small gifts that are made in my area here in USA. Being from Seattle, I like bringing Dilettante chocolates, Maury Island jams, and of course Seattle Best Coffee.

We've been in this position. If dinner is at their home, you can ask them if you could bring dessert. Go to a local patisserie and buy something gorgeous just before showing up at their apartment. It's not too personal and will be appreciated. If you are meeting them in a restaurant, you could pay the bill as a way of thanking him for going all the way to the airport and back to the city. This latter suggestion may not be easy as the French always want to treat guests and not have guests treat them.
