Have 9 hours to explore area from our cruise ship. Looking for excursion and independent sightseeing advice. Will be there on September 19, 2017.

I did my own research and created a list of places I wanted to visit.
Then I negotiated with a cab driver when we got off the ship.

There is mot a lot to see in Gibraltar, so nine hours will be sufficient. It is a quirky little place now mired in the Brexit controversy. Fortunately for you, you are arriving by ship, otherwise passing through the Gibraltar/Spain frontier is maddening and time-consuming.

The tours of the island are pretty interesting - to see the caves and top of the island. If you are coming in on cruise ship, the taxis will be waiting to take you on their set tour. Some interesting history. Or if you don't want to do that, you can take a local bus to where the cable car goes up - on a clear day, fantastic views and then you can walk a bit on a path and watch the taxis roll thru the ape area and the passengers being accosted by the apes.

The apes can be pesky - when we were there, one ape ran up to a woman and grabbed into her bag /purse. Pulled out her passport and threw it over the side of the cliff!

By the way - has anyone suggested you check out Cruise Critic - the ports section - there will be info there that coordinates well with your time in port. Also you can find your roll call and maybe join up with others from your ship for private shore excursions. Have a great trip!

Thanks for all the replies. Already have joined my roll call for my ship on Cruise Critic. In response to Dogeared comments I find them quite comical and bizarre. Obviously you must not travel much or have a clue what you are talking about. You can read and research so many things on travel but is very nice to get actual advice from people who have visited these places. Based on the many trips I have taken over the years and the people I have traveled with I would say I am a pretty good travel planner and has saved a lot of money by doing it myself rather pay a travel agent or tour company to organize it. So next time you reply to a post why don't you offer some real advice versus some absurd comments.

Uh huh, instead of doing the research yourself or paying someone, you ask others to give you the answers for free. Much better than paying anyone I have to agree. But I still don't see what it makes you a 'guru' at doing. LOL

I consider asking questions here as part of my trip research. Most posters are happy to give answers for free :)
