Ghosts of WWII, new and old pictures combined

Hauntingly beautiful, a little unsettling but so well crafted.

ayla, thank you for sharing. The shadow of WWI and WWII is never far away in Europe. An interesting book that describes the price paid by Germany and others for the Nazi interlude is AFTER THE REICH: The Brutal History of the Allied Occupation by Giles MacDonogh. Of course, Russia suffered greatly - had the most casualties, I believe.

That is fantastic. What many people may not realize is the difficulty involved in getting his modern shot angles to exactly match the old angles.

Thank you, Alya...superb, amazing results. I once tried to so the same with some of my old army pics in a purely amateurish attempt, but failed to capture the essence that Larenkov was able to. I took dozens of shots of some of the locations 60+ years after the fact, and with my son we tried to superimpose the old pics of a young me and my regiment. I learned to leave it to the pros.
