Once upon a time, at the the Goring Hotel in London, I got the fright of my life while collecting the morning newspaper in the hall. It was very early, not even sunbreak yet, and I was half asleep. Something caught my eye at the end of the hallway - it was a chalky-white apparition and it wafted silently down the hall towards me before disappearing into a room across the hall.
