Ghent, Belgium to Germany road trip
We will be staying in Ghent for Thanksgiving and would to spend the 2nd half of our trip driving through scenic Germany, flying back out of Frankfurt. We have 2 kids 12 & 9, so some castles, fun food, Christmas markets, cool sights, outdoor adventures would be great.
They want to stay in a castle for a night or two, so looking for a few hotels or b&bs along the way in quaint villages.
What towns do you suggest, or even better yet, what path to take from Ghent.
Thanks in advance!

Gent - Luxembourg - Mosel Valley to Koblenz - Rhine River (think there may be a castle hotel here not sure)- Heidelberg - Frankfurt.
December can be grim weather-wise so the piping hot Gluhweine at Xmas Markets will be sweet!
Frankfurt has one of the nicest Christmas Markets in its Romer Platz. Just about any town has one
Prost!

Have you checked on drop-off fees for renting in Belgium and returning in Germany -could be dauntingly steep for doing so - if so take a train to Germany from Brussels www.thalys.com or www.bahn.de/en - advance booking deep discounts.
