GEX - 3 course meal

Anyone have experience about ordering 3 course meal on GEX? I sent them email asking menu but they will not know until a week prior departure. I can't eat cheese.
Is it worth to order from them in advance?

Thks

Hi Travel911,

I recommend you avoid the meal on the train.

I ordered it myself for my trip, and I had some great expectations for indulging in a nice meal while enjoying the beautiful scenery. Unfortunately, the meal was some kind of mystery meat in a goulash sauce. The salad was some lettuce with thousand-island dressing. It was, all in all, about the equivalent of a Shoney's meal at about three times the cost.

I would suggest you just visit a grocery store before you board the train and pick up a gourmet picnic -- smoked hams, smoked salmon, chocolate, a freshly made salad, etc. Yogurt if you can eat it. Otherwise, just order something off the menu.

Have fun as you plan!

as just about everything with Europe's most overhhyped train the meal, according to swandav whose opinion I highly respect (as long as it don't involve Interlaken) is also - yes bring whatever you want on board this marathon train running thru for the most part for Switzerland ordinary scenery except at its two ends - Richenau to St Moritz and Visp to Zermatt - even the glaciers the train once passed by on the Furkha Pass can no longer be seen since the present-day Furka Base Tunnel simply tunnels under the old pass from where glaciers could indeed be seen.

The Bernina Pass Railway is far more scenic than the GR as are several other railways in Switzerland IMO.

Maybe you'll find some info on GE menus and what they contain at these superb IMO sites - www.swisstravelsystem.com; http://www.budgeteuropetravel.com/id3.html and www.seat61.com and www.ricksteves.com.

And dn NOT anything with Fondue in its name!
