getting very frustrated with your new system

If you can't make this thing work I am not going to waste my time giving advise to a post. Get it working or go back to the old way.

Yes very frustrating. this is a test

Really, really slow and many features don't appear -- can no longer search by state, to check posts about my own (rather popular) state. Must hit "stop" and "Refresh" after almost every link.

I think I'll take a week or two off, to give these folks time to work out the glitches that they MUST be aware of by now.

harvey Jan 31st, 2003 05:51 PM

third time i posted it took it zip quick and the next time I couldn't get anything to post no matter how many times i tried or how long i took.

Patrick Jan 31st, 2003 05:59 PM

I was gone all evening and was surprised to see how few posts had been made, so I knew something was up. The US board seems to be worse. There were only 2 posts made in an hour and a half period this evening. For the last two days it was fine for me, but today it's been off and on with all kinds of problems. I'm thinking it can only get better??

Mikex Jan 31st, 2003 06:02 PM

The site may not be to blame. It may be your ISP. Ours has been slow since last weekend. Something to do with the server virus that got loose last weekend. Give it a chance to recover. This is a great site. A few inconveniences may come from the slowdown but ot is not life threating.

Patrick Jan 31st, 2003 06:59 PM

Would that explain why on Sunday through Thursday every thing was fine, but on Friday (today) it all came to a screeching halt? I'm not being smug here, I'm seriously asking.

Patrick Jan 31st, 2003 07:01 PM

Oh, and would that also explain why every other site I visit and post on is just as fast as usual, but only this one is slow and gets blocked?

Mikex Jan 31st, 2003 07:13 PM

Maybe it is not the answer, however I have been having trouble on this site for about three nights including tonight. Since I was not on here ssunday through Wed I though maybe the server virus was the culprit. All the same, I am sure someone is working on a fix and I will bet he is sweating about the problem. Servers are strange creatures and take a lot of care and feeding and the manufacturer is never interested in customer needs. "You wanted that part when? Ha ha hah?"
Lets just have fun and not worry about how slow it is!
Mike

Patrick Jan 31st, 2003 07:17 PM

Actually for the last two hours, it has been great -- no problems once again. Let's just keep our fingers crossed.

uhoh_busted Jan 31st, 2003 07:21 PM

I don't remember what my password was so I had to get a new one. Posting takes some time...and a couple of days Fodors wasn't even loading up. Hope the bugs get worked out.

francophile03 Jan 31st, 2003 09:05 PM

If this reply goes through then I don't have a problem posting like I did this a.m.

ahussey Jan 31st, 2003 09:25 PM

On the plus side, if you know someones email address, you can search on it even though it is no longer shown.
leslie Jan 31st, 2003 09:42 PM

Art, why is searching on that feature on the plus side?

martinewezel Feb 1st, 2003 03:23 AM

I also have problems posting replies. Sometimes it is not completely loading, it blocks, I have to close and start all over again. The second time it works and then I see my replie is there in double.
Sometimes I post my reply without problemes and when I check, it is not there...

rex Feb 1st, 2003 04:02 AM

One of the most obvious examples of the "plus side" is the ability to retrieve one's own posts. Very useful at times, especially when used with Boolean ("and / "or" / "not") searching.

In Art's case, it seems quite self evident. He can find his own posts under "alhussey", the email address derived from his first two initials and his last name: A. L. Hussey

Yet I understand why he has registered under the name "ahussey" because so many, too many people were incorrectly his name to be "Al".

There are a still sizable numner of people here who favor "standing up" for responsible posting by not having a problem with providing a name, and an e-mail address.

Best wishes,

Rex Bickers
[email protected]
With how quiet it has been over the last few days, if these login problems continue, they may want to remane the US/Europe boards "snooze" and "snore."

Julia Feb 1st, 2003 05:35 AM

Testing.

suze Feb 1st, 2003 11:53 AM

Yup call me one of the frustrated!! Can post a couple times, then the next one... no go. It is not me because only Fodors is a problem, all my other travel site BB's are working just fine.
