Getting to Venice from the airport.

Hello All,

I have searched the forums for an answer to this question and they are all about 2+ years old so sorry to repeat but would appreciate up to date information in case things have changed.

I write this for a friend's father who is flying into Venice airport and would like to know the easiest way to get to Venice, they are staying just near the Accademia vaporetto stop. The water taxi option sounds good but may be a bit pricey. I have previously done the bus/vaporetto thing but I think that may be a bit of a hassle for them with luggage.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

If you don't want to take the bus/vaporetto, you can take the water taxi or the Alilaguna

The water taxi is pricey and you have to walk to the dock from the air terminal (although it is downhill and not too far) but the view is pretty amazing coming into Venice. I came in at sunset and will never forget how beautiful and magical it looked.

The easiest and cheapest way is to take the Venice Express Bus for 3 euros. It takes 30 minutes and drops you off at the Piazza Roma in Venice. You can buy a ticket at the automatic machines in the airport, I believe.

The water bus (Alilaguna) is about 13 euro (?) and water taxi is very expensive.

There is a shared water taxi service, which we used, and they would drop you off at the Accademia stop. Link is here:

It costs 27 euro per person, but if you are a single traveller, then it is 54 euro. The web site explains.

Or take the Alilaguna to San Marco, then a No 1 Vaporetto up the grand Canal to the Accademia stop.

At the airport, the walk is ten minutes and easy going. He can use an airport baggage trolley for his luggage. You need a one euro coin to get a trolley.

My impressions of arriving in Venice by (shared) water taxi:

So we Emirated our way across the globe, fetching up at about 45deg 15m N, 12deg 19m E, in Venice, arriving in real style per taxi, threading our way through the Rio di Santa Giustina (sound horn at the intersection with the Rio di San Francesco), the Rio di San Lorenzo which gives a good view of crumbling foundations, and the Rio dei Greci. And then that complete knock out sight, as we entered the Grand Canal, Ducal Palace and the Campanile to starboard, and the Chiesa di Santa Maria della Salute to port. There’s a line in “Wind in the Willows” – “There’s nothing so worthwhile as simply messing about in boats”, and Venice has taken this to heart. The Grand Canal is full of people simply messing about in boats. Gondolas, police boats, workboats, ambulances, waterbuses, water taxis, the lot.

Upstream under the temporary bridge with traffic lights erected across the Grand Canal to the Salute for the 21st November festival, and disembark at the Ca’ Rezzonico. I can’t really claim to have returned like Marco Polo, if for no other reason that we lacked his cargo of silks and spices, but it did feel pretty special.
