Getting to the Maison Fournaise
Since a few of you have been there...
The directions on the restaurant's website are a little vague in terms of getting there from the RER station (Rueil-Malmaison). Is it a far walk? Is it easy to find?
Next question: are recommendations recommended?

We drive there but I know St Cirq and Beatchick took the train from Paris and then there's a bit of a walk.
We have been there twice for lunch with no reservations but picked days when th museum downstairs was closed.

Why not reserve ahead and request a table on the Balcony Renoir for the best "experience"? You can reserve at their website.
We got off at Chatou-Croissy and took a bus to the restaurant. Going back, we walked (with others we met up with who had arrived that way) south on rue de Bac to the bridge, then went east to Rueil-Malmaison station, about a 10 minute walk.

No, I hardly remember the walk at all, just that the path to get there meandered (and I love to meander), but probably because I was having such a great time with StCirq, she's such a great conversationalist.
I remember the food was excellent as was the wine. And don't ask me what we had; StCirq & I have discussed this a billion times but I can never remember beyond the lapin terrine (which was fabulous despite my misgivings because of an earlier bad experience with pâté

Well, we definitely did not get off the RER an dmake a beeline there - it was a bit of a meander, but we got there eventually. I think if you follow djkbooks' directions you'll be in good shape. You do want to get off the RER and find your way to the bridge crossing the Seine and about 2/3 of the way across it there's a kind of driveway that leads down to the Maison Fournaise.
As Beatchick said, we were probably yakking too much to be really cognizant of directions, though we didn't mess up too badly!
