Getting to Rome Airport, too many kids for a hotel(!!!) I need help!

After a longer Balkans itinerary, my family will be flying home from Rome next spring. We have an 8am flight which means an extremely early morning. We had thought it would be easiest to stay at an airport hotel, but I can't find one yet that can accommodate our family--two adults, two preschoolers, and an infant. Most of the rooms are only approved for two people, regardless of age. One hotel actually suggested that I get three rooms, which of course assumes I would put a child in a room alone.

My other option might be to stay in town and hire a cab for the (long) ride to Fiumicino. So with that in mind, does anyone know how much it would cost for such a cab ride early in the morning? Or does anyone have any ideas for lodging near the airport? The rest of our trip has been so easy to plan, it's hard to believe this is what's doing us in.

Many thanks,
karen

Holiday Inn EUR is 1/2 way between Rome and FCO - about a 15min taxi ride. They have two double (or maybe queen beds).

Go to Slowtrav.com and check what they may have by FCO. If you need to find an apartment in Rome and find a "car" to get you to the airport it will probably cost about 50 Euros.

You can get a taxi for about 40-50Euros.
We(2 adults, 2 children) were in Rome in July. I rented a studio for a week in the center of the Rome close to Spanish steps. The owner of our flat hired a limo service to pick us up from FCO around midnight. The company charged us about 50Euros.

On our return trip to airport, we paid a flat rate of 45Euro because it was in daytime. Hope this helps.

You can ask the hotel you are staying at to send transporation for you.

Good luck and aware of pickpocketers in Rome.

Stay in town and book a shuttle for the early AM trip to the Airport... I would not want my last night in Italy to be at an "airport" hotel... ugh! Enjoy the city. You can either book a shuttle online (www.romecabs.com and www.romashuttle.com are both highly recommended on the boards), have the hotel call a taxi service the day before, or you could call the taxi service in advance and arrange a pickup.

This link details the challenges of staying at an airport hotel overnight and getting to the airport: http://www.roninrome.com/2009/03/15/...n-the-morning/

Thank you, everyone! These are great suggestions. I think we've decided to extend our flat rental for that night and hire a cab or car of some sort.
